Wood Grain Rug at West Elm

P_r511_pip_woodgrainrugespresso_sp0I was flipping through the West Elm catalog yesterday when this Wood Grain Rug caught my eye.

My favorite thing about it? It's described as "carved soft wool pile."

    Wood Grain Rug, $109-$749.

    Puppy-Proof Puzzle Rug

PuzzleperserI love rugs. I love dogs. My dog, Thora, loves to ruin my rugs. I've never owned one that she hasn't sent to an early grave.

How does she ruin them, you ask? To be delicate, let's just say that she has some tummy problems and my rugs seem to her the perfect outlet.

As a result, the only rugs I've owned in the last 5 years have remained behind closed doors in the office or guest room.

But, my rug-ban may be nearing an end. I ran across this gorgeous puzzle rug on Design Spotter. Well, technically it's modular flooring in a rug design. It's not only colorful, and playful. It's also made of rubber.

    Martha Stewart for FLOR

Martha Stewart has teamed with FLOR to create some simple but elegant tiled rug designs. There's nothing revolutionary here, but everything is pretty and muted and a little more traditional than FLOR's other fare.

    Reed

Reed is my favorite. The simple two-tone stripe looks very classy.

    Moon

Moon is very plain, but looks more plush than FLOR's other tiles.

    Cinnabar_2

Needlepoint Stripe has a lovely, warm pallete.

    Modu Tile Cork Flooring

Cork So, I was over at Branch, and eyeing all their eco-friendly home furnishing and children's accessories when I noticed this totally unique type of flooring.

Normally, when I think of cork I am popping open a bottle of wine or using thumb-tacks to stick up a note but this idea really struck me as ingenious from the standpoint of durability and creativity.

The ModuTile Cork Flooring is safe to use on ceramic, linoleum, concrete and wood floors. You can install them either temporarily, with peel-and-stick adhesive tabs, or permanently, using standard cork flooring adhesive.

This would be perfect for our basement. The concrete floors are just awful and until we commit to finishing the whole thing off, this might be a fabulous alternative to unmatched carpet remnants that can become moldy and stinky. The total floor coverage for one set is 12 square feet. About $98. Cool!
